01 / The brief

Start with the work people need to do.

In September 2026, VIS delivered responsible AI training for NIMC and NPC with SudoForce Limited through the Digital Identity Capability Strengthening Programme. Babangida Tsowa, VIS Founder and CEO, facilitated sessions connecting AI adoption, model evidence and institutional responsibility. The learning combined explanation, synthetic case exercises, group discussion and assessment around decisions in digital identity and civil registration.

The challenge

  • Translate AI concepts into decisions relevant to identity and civil-registration work.
  • Examine the effect of model errors on citizens and operational review capacity.
  • Connect technical evidence to accountable oversight and deployment decisions.

02 / Our contribution

What VIS brought to the engagement.

  • Two connected learning modules on AI adoption and model assurance
  • Facilitation by Babangida Tsowa
  • Synthetic identity-management case study and guided group exercises
  • Knowledge checks and discussion
  • Reusable approval and review checklist

03 / The approach

Connect the decisions. Make the workflow clearer.

  • Explain the concepts through identity-specific scenarios.
  • Use synthetic information to practise risk and model review without exposing live records.
  • Discuss approval conditions, human oversight, escalation and monitoring alongside model performance.

The training modules

The session materials organise the learning into two connected breakouts.

Artificial Intelligence and Emerging Technologies

Applications across enrolment, verification and operations; identity-specific risks, including false matches, synthetic fraud, privacy and automation bias; and the evidence and controls needed before a pilot.

AI Modelling and Machine Learning

The model lifecycle, data quality and leakage, precision and recall, threshold trade-offs, subgroup performance, human oversight, security and monitoring.

Applying the learning

Project ClearID was a fictional identity and civil-registration scenario. Its records and performance figures were synthetic training material, not operational NIMC or NPC data.

AI Risk and Assurance Assessment

Groups assessed public value, affected people, priority risks and safeguards, then prepared an approve, conditional-pilot, redesign or stop recommendation with conditions and a red line.

Model Risk Review

The exercise asked groups to compare thresholds and channel performance, weigh false matches against missed duplicates and review capacity, then identify controls and a stop condition.

Knowledge checks and reflection

Opening questions, module checks and post-session review connected the exercises to meaningful human oversight, model revalidation and institutional decision-making.

Practical resources for the next decision

Approval and reauthorisation checklist

Eight questions connect purpose, public value, data, error costs, unequal performance, reviewer authority, monitoring and citizen redress to an evidence record and accountable owner.

Synthetic model walkthrough

The materials include an optional notebook and offline walkthrough showing how record pairs become scores, review flags and officer decisions. This is supporting training material, not a claim of a production identity system.

04 / Outcomes

What changed through the work.

  • Responsible AI sessions delivered for NIMC and NPC with SudoForce Limited.
  • Applied risk and model-review exercises connected technical concepts with institutional decisions.
  • Reusable learning materials supported continued review of AI proposals and pilots.

Project outcomes reported in the October 2026 company profile.
